Living room - Lets Be Friends Demos
our story starts in june 2023 where two rock climbing friends "Jessie Elden" and "Miles Hutchinson" start making demos together in a makeshift studio in jessie's front living room, the two tracks "Nova Scotia" and "Paper Plates" would be the canvas for the duos newest project. the boys would soon move to a rehearsal room in a industrial complex located in st Philips Bristol. The two quickly drafted up ideas for a 8 track album all self recorded on to mile's laptop, the boys toyed with the idea of a actual studio but the price tag would prevent them. given more time to experiment with their sound soon demos such as "she ran off the bus to kiss me" a beetles inspired poppy number about a first date picturing the narrator and their partner in the Bristol Avon and around the harbour and darker demos such as the "Madison square garden" dug up from old sessions with Chris Hawkins of the brc. ​nothing would come of thease early demos until the two wrote the number "I'm your Atlantis" in November of 2023, during this time the two whent through a lot personally but finding a sound to express this pain and hurt felt better than anything, soon the two would write the experimental tune "jazz girl" using the metaphor of the calm and manic sections of the song to represent a average day in a abusive relationship, where in the original lyrics jessie states in the background "the bruises get too much".
the fast passed distorted mess "ok messenger" originally depicted helping someone off the edge of Brunel's bridge after a attempted suicide and after a Christmas break the duo recorded the ballad "lets be friends" until finding new inspiration in bands like fugazi and blur (self titled era 97-99) to write the fuzzy "berns in geneva"

SHINDIG FESTIVAL & RELEASE
release
after a year of work on the release jessie shared some snippets of "I'm your Atlantis" on tiktok where it started to get amazing attention, the boys decided to release "I'm your Atlantis" as the debut single of betony, the single was streamed over 1,200 times in its first week of Spotify. soon after jessie wrote the single "pareidolia" and knowing the ep was done the two impulsively recorded it and released it before a break in april soon after releasing it as a single, exactly a month before the release of the EP jessie met "alphie shuffleworth" of the band "the last revival" who agreed to join betony as a drummer and guitarist the two qucikly spent a month rehearsing before playing the massave British music festival "shindig" in may thanks to a amazing friend.

i dont feel like myself anymore released on the 30th of June and hit streaming services on the 2nd of July 2024, the release was received lovingly by fans and set the standard for future betony releases, the EP was streamed almost 1,000 in the first week! and soon garnered over 7,500 streams within its first month. at the end of the ballad "Lets Be Friends" the band hoped that they left room to hint at what could come next...
